RADIO PROGRAMS

The music and comedies  presented on Silver Memories are from the 1940s to the 1970s and will be familiar to residents living in aged care. The programming is appropriate, engaging and entertaining and broadcast from our Brisbane studio by friendly announcers who lend a special ‘human touch’. A much-loved feature of Silver Memories are the ‘cheerio’ and birthday calls segments heard each morning.

This is also the time to hear your own resident’s requests being played. To request songs, simply log in to the Silver Memories website and under the member login tab, you will see the section for Music Requests. Fill in the details and press submit and your songs will be played. Be sure to give us about a week's notice.

The Year That Was!

Silver Memories Singalong
Fridays 10am and Monday - Friday 4pm
Join in with all your favourites and give the voice a good workout. Residents will remember happy times singing round the piano with family and friends.

Birthday Calls
Mondays to Saturdays 9am and 11am
Your residents can have their birthdays acknowledged on the radio. Use the website form to send us the list of your residents’ names and birthdates so we can celebrate on air on their special day. If you would like a special request, just let us know.

Down Memory Lane
Monday - Friday 3:30pm - 5pm
Hear half hour programs including Country Classics, The Crooners, Old Time Dance Music, Singalong and Love Songs and Ballads. Perfect for that 'sundown' time of the day.

Our Favourite Hymns
Sundays 10am, repeated same day at 2pm
This is an ideal program for residents who aren’t attending church services but who may enjoy singing along with favourite hymns which they will know and love. It is a Christian non-denominational program and usually includes a simple prayer or thought for the day. This is also a good activity for a day when activity staff are rarely on duty. Song sheets for the hymns are sent to you each week.

Mainly Waltzing and Marching
Mondays to Saturdays, 6am – 7am
The title speaks for itself and is a cheerful, non-demanding beginning to the day with its choices of marching and waltz music.

Early Evening Melodies
Monday - Friday 5pm
It’s the time of the day when you don’t want anything too upbeat or energetic. Music with a relaxing tempo is the order of the day here.

Please note: Times are listed in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST / Queensland time).

I have seen first-hand the joy and pleasure that the service brings our elderly residents. Being able to access a radio station that plays the music of the residents’ younger days really helps to bring back memories and often enables us to start discussions of friends, family and times gone by. Music is so important to the work we do here to improve and retain memory and the 4MBS service really assists us in our work.
